REEL ESTATE

Beware of the slippery rainbow
I, like many young girls have always dreamed of having either a mansion on the hill or the little house with a white picket fence. So whether it was a longing for Twelve Oaks, the setting for the B.B.Q where Scarlett was to find out for certain that, no matter what, her beloved Ashley would still be marrying Melanie - or whether it was waiting for Smithy's return one Random Harvest, I do not know.

"The effect by which one accidentally stumbles upon something fortunate, especially while looking for something entirely unrelated."

Was it a serendipitous find I wonder that took me to the Never Never Land website as I considered my options for turning a recently acquired dolls house into something unique? And was it even more of a find that this - London's Biggest Little Toyshop - just happened to be based in the very place I was born. For those who know me that dared to dismiss the fact that Never Never Land ever existed could now eat their words.

Had it been there all my life and I never knew it? Was it pure co-incidence at the sad loss I feel for Michael Jackson who was a significant part of my growing up that I should find myself going through the gates of Windows Vista alongside him to that land of Oz where, once inside, the human world outside then ceases to exist?

Never Never Land is a real place after all Michael!

As the proud owner of four roomed Georgian style dolls house arranged on two floors, I am about to enter the world of miniature Real Estate.

Not one to follow the traditional theme, I need to consider one that will feed my imagination.

I could consider a 1940's pub theme (like in "Goodnight Sweetheart") a modern day cocktail bar, a sweet shop or even turn it into an Indian Restaurant or Kebab House.

Georgian, Georgia, Deep South, Civil War , Tara. The answer was staring me in the face. My condominium will become a film studio where there will be four different film sets that I can re-create to precision.

Though professional university-level education in Real Estate is primarily focused at the graduate level, way above my comprehension, we are talking about Reel Estate and this, on the other hand will test my ability to multi-task.

My little 'property' may not be located in a prestigious area of north london within a conservation area, or with a mature landscaped setting accessed via a private driveway fitted with electronic gates, but at £180 all in, it is somewhat of a 'snip' in comparison to it's £375,000 counterpart in the real world.

This is where my artistic vision will meet with wood, nails and paint. With a little attention to detail, practice and a few tricks of the trade, my responsibility will go far beyond simply building the sets but will involve the creation of a living, breathing, fully detailed world.

The best thing of all is that I shall not need any planning permission to create my very own Yellow Brick Road, where I can once again "experience" the cyclone which struck Dorothy's house, and visit with the Scarecrow, Tinman, Cowardly Lion and of course, the Wicked Witch of the West. Just so long as they come in one twelfth scale!

I have a place where dreams are born
And time is never planned
It's not on any chart
You must find it with your heart
Never, Never Land.

It might be miles beyond the moon
Or right there where you stand
Just keep an open mind
And then suddenly you will find
Never, Never Land.

You'll have a treasure if you stay there
More precious far than gold
For once you have found your way there
You can never, never grow old.
